Career counselling is a fast growing career field because of the variety of jobs we have now which routinely confuse students about their future. Two expert career counsellors told us more.

As humans progress in various fields, we are developing a lot of new job industries and job roles which didn't even exist before. With the boom in the number of options, students often become confused about which path to choose.
The problem of choosing a suitable career is more acute in India as the concept of career counselling is still not very commonly accepted. Parents even now force their kids to pick their future only from three or four conventional options including engineering, medical, and MBA.
On the other hand, there is also another breed of students and youngsters who are very aware of the kind of job they want and won't settle for anything less because their main target is job satisfaction instead of simply earning.
Why do we need career counselling?
"Students today have a wide array of career options to choose from. However, with the rise in the number of options, we are also noticing increased confusion," says Dr. David Reile Executive Coach, Career Development Alliance, USA, as well as the Past President, Career Development Council, USA, while speaking to India Today Education.
"We must also take into consideration that we live in a success-seeking world, and students of the day don't wish to settle for anything less than what they deserve," he adds.
Conventional and reasonably secure careers -- like the ones parents mostly want for their children - are fast making way for offbeat new-age careers like wildlife photography, data science, and biostatistics.
